SURCHARGES
** NOTE - We do not charge any processing fees on transactions. However, if either you or your client processes transactions, your processing provider (Stripe/Authorize.net etc) will deduct a processing fee.
Surcharging is the process where you can apply the credit card fees directly to your client. Surcharging is not legal in many parts of the US or Europe, or other parts of the world, and in the US in particular, certain States have strict laws that prevent surcharging for credit card processing.
If your business is in a region that does allow surcharging, and you would like this feature enabled on your account, please send a message to our support team and ask for surcharging to be enabled on your account. Disclaimer - In your message you must confirm that surcharging is legal in your locality.
HOW TO USE THE FEATURE
Once you have enabled BritePay payments integration (Stripe/Authorize.net etc) the Surcharge feature (pictured below) will show up, you can specify a percentage and/or fixed fee that will be applied to all card transactions. You can set different fees for Credit, Debit, American Express, Diner Club, and Discover Cards.
The max surcharge you can set is 4% - (to avoid errors).
In the Contact Portal, when a customer clicks on the "Pay Now" button, they get an extra dropdown to specify the card type they are paying with. This dropdown will show them the percentage and/or fixed transaction fee that will be applied to their transaction. Once they select a card type, the amount on the green Pay Now button will update to show them the full amount that will be charged to their card.
With this feature enabled, any time a credit card transaction is processed on BriteVenue you can be sure you are passing any transaction fees onto the customer and this will update automatically on the bookings page.
The surcharge feature is a really great feature to pass on credit card fees to your clients if that is what you want to do. Many businesses do not want to do this, rather consider fees to be operational costs. Please note that Surcharging is not a legal practice in many parts of the US or Europe, so you need to send a request to our support team to turn this feature on and you need to specify in a disclaimer that "surcharging is legal in your locality".
