Accepting Credit Card Payments

The types of credit cards you can accept from clients depend on your country. BritePay follows Stripe’s accepted payment methods. The table below outlines the approved payment methods by country.

Countries

Accepted card types

United States, Canada, United Kingdom, European Union.

Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB, Diners Club, China UnionPay

Australia

Visa, Mastercard, American Express, JCB, China UnionPay, eftpos

Transaction Limits

Most payment processors have set transaction limits, which determine the maximum amount accepted per transaction. Transaction limits are set by Stripe and depend on the payment method used.

If your clients pay using a credit card, there is no transaction limit—meaning there is no cap on how much you can charge and accept.

Credit Card Payout Speeds

Once a client makes a payment, there is a waiting period before the funds reach your bank account—this is known as payout speed. With BritePay, these timeframes remain the same as Stripe’s standard payout process.

There are two key timeframes that determine when funds will be available in your bank account:

  1. Settlement Time – The time it takes for funds to move from your BritePay invoice to your Stripe account. This varies depending on your client’s payment method.

  2. Payout Time – The time it takes for funds in your Stripe account to be deposited into your bank account. This depends on your country.

When clients pay with a credit card, settlement time is usually around 1 business day for the funds to appear in your Stripe account. If a client makes a late-day payment, the funds may take an extra day before becoming available for payout.

Stripe provides estimated payout timeframes, but actual times may vary. The table below lists payout speeds by country.

Example

If you are based in the United States, here’s how the payment flow would work.

  1. Your client makes a BritePay payment on Monday using a credit card.

  2. The funds typically appear in your BritePay/Stripe account by Tuesday.

  3. Later on Tuesday, you initiate a transfer from BritePay to your bank account.

  4. Depending on when the transfer was initiated, you can expect the funds to arrive in your bank account by Thursday or Friday.

Note - BritePay/Stripe does not process payouts on weekends or holidays, which may cause additional delays.
